San Luis Obispo is a quiet town, but it doesn't mean that you can't have fun at night. Here's a guide on where to be out and about after dark in San Luis Obispo. The hottest San Luis Obispo bars, pubs and dancing.
Where the San Luis Obispo partiers will be seen:
Black Sheep: Great bar, not too trashy, with a cool patio area for when it gets too hot inside.
Corner View Bar: Classy joint for the older crowd; great for a martini or glass of wine.
Blue: Upscale, trendy bar for the upper 20s/early 30s.
Giuseppe's martini bar: Great for a martini; try their signature drinks.
Garapolo's: Cool downstairs bar area.
Frog and Peach: English pub style, with creekside outdoor drinking as well as live bands.

Wanna get your groove on?
Downtown Brew: Trashy and sweaty, but everyone goes to this downtown staple.
The Grad: It's all the way out in the middle of nowhere, so don't count on drinking too much unless you've got your DD lined up. Giant dance floor and several bars inside, but - damn - it's so far away from downtown.
The Library: Dark and dirty, but lots of fun.
Mother's Tavern: Dancing in the main room, with an upstairs lounge area. Very popular nighttime hangout.
Novo now has nighttime hours, now. Serving drinks and tapas until midnight, with dancing downstairs.
Other nightlife:
Doc's Karaoke Bar: Just opened, but popular place to belt out those classics from the '80s (or any decade, for that matter).
So you've partied the night away, and now you're drunk - and hungry. Here's what might still be open to satisfy your late-night cravings:
Denny's, of course: The ultimate end-up. Open all day and all night, this diner is familiar to all those who party 24 hours a day. Serves a variety of greasy favorites, perfect for satisfying that drunken hunger. Onion rings, seasoned fries, chicken strips, mozarella sticks, hamburgers, omelettes, pancakes, etc. It's not downtown, though, so you'll have to have your DD drive you there. Madonna Road.
Woodstock's Pizza: Not open as late as the others, but still good for some cheap pizza by the slice if you make it in before it closes.
Tio Alberto's: Authentic Mexican food, yet open oh-so late.
Chile Peppers: Sure, it's all the way out by Foothill, but it's open really late, and who doesn't love greasy Mexican food?
Jack in the Box: Kind of out of the way, but definitely walkable from downtown San Luis Obispo. The 15-minute walk in the cool night air does wonders for helping to sober up. Serves the usual fast-food fare, with curly seasoned fries, hamburgers, mozarella sticks, chicken strips, onion rings, milkshakes, etc.
Taco Bell: Across the street from Jack in the Box, so you have a choice. The usual fast-food pseudo-Mexican food, which is always delicious when you're drunk and hungry.
